First Grade

First grade is an exciting year! Now that students are experienced in school surroundings, they are ready to expand their knowledge and independence. They will be building fundamental language arts skills that will support them in reading and writing for years to come. Students will also refine reading comprehension skills and fluency. In math they will use addition and subtraction to solve real life problems, and tackle time, measurement, fractions and counting money. Students will be expected to explain their thinking in all subject areas verbally, through written responses, and with the use of technology.
